Due to strong nutrient bearing currents, the walls abound in life. Sponges, Bryozoans, sea squirts and coral create a tapestry of colour. Tunas and greater amberjacks inhabit the area Susak is a unique and unusual island, completely covered in sand, unlike its neighbouring islands. According to the legend of the Great God, or Veliki Bouh, a large cross was washed up on the island’s shore, which the local Benedictine monks carried into their church – and which can no longer be carried out through the door.
The people of Susak have always relied on the sea, and it is an island of fishermen and seafarers. The waters off Pt. Margarina are not easy to navigate and they have been the final resting place of many a vessel. This position has been know
since 1970 both to archaeologist and to local recreational divers. There were two recorded shipwrecks; one with a cargo of building materials ( several half-dressed stone blocks and about twenty dressed round stone pillars) at a depth of 28 to 30 meters and the other contained a cargo of tegulaes and imbrices in the ravine surrounded by rocks at a depth of 6-18 meters. Found building material was completely overgrown with seaweed and thus became part of the underwater landscape so it was impossible to date it. Given the cargo of tegulae, the shipwreck
can be dated to the antique period.

15. Vale Inglese, Koludarac
DIVING DISTANCE: ZONE 1 (0-4 NM from the diving center)
Very well protected area for sailors and boat owners….even from the ancient time. Still today on the sandy bottom divers can find fragments of ancient pottery. In the part of the year when there is no nautical guests the bay became a nice place for night dive due to safe enviroment and lot of fish.
Good anchorages are sheltered bays where ships spend the night or wait for weather
suitable for navigation. Individual items can be found on the seabed because they were once rejected or lost for some reason. Collecting and moving the items is strictly
forbidden and they make a part of Croatian cultural heritage that has to be appreciated only underwater leaving behind only bubbles… The average depth is from 2-12 m.
